Hope House

Restrictive town planning requirements to a small rural section created
challenges in adding space to what was a farm workers single storey cottage.
A local heritage house helped provide some context and another floor was
added upstairs with views to the mountains- all within a colonial-regency
form. Steel beams and hyjoist floor beams upstairs enabled areas to be
opened up into more usable spaces.

This design was the Winner of the "Residential Alterations and Additions Design Award 2011 for Nelson/Marborough"

Mahana House

The site is a 35 acre block with views ranging from the Waimea Estuary to
Durville Island and the Richmond Ranges.
Vehicles arrive up a winding driveway from the valley below until they come
to entry gates and a farmhouse style courtyard.
This house is kinked to ensure all day sun to all Living and Bedroom areas
and is on one level. The large garage is linked by a passage to the house.
Hill Street House

Originally a solid 1950s weatherboard house, this house is on an elevated
urban site overlooking the Waimea Plains.
The clients didn't want to move from this site and so decided instead to
open up the spaces , extend outdoor living and make the most of the all day
sun and views.

Ligar Bay Holiday House – Golden Bay

The clients came with a concept sketch done by Alanna Harrington a designer friend of theirs. I then translated these concept sketches into building consent drawings.
The site offers views to the beach which is 100 metres away and of surrounding hills and although not a large footprint, enables  a plan which includes three bedrooms plus an extra bedroom/studio over the Garage through the clever use of different floor levels. There are two decks on the Ground floor and one on the upper floor offering outdoor living.
The North facing deck has a mechanical louver over it allowing the clients to control the amount of summer sun into the Living Areas. Cladding is stained cedar vertical boarding.
